Other Ecovillages
Here's a rundown on other Ecovillages and some of our favorite sites
Oakland (formerly Hanover) Ecovillage In Oakland, the Hanover village has figured a lot of this stuff out. Check out its calendar for ideas on where to head with Phinney's Ecovillage.
In Port Townsend, WA a group is putting together an Ecoillage on 7 acres, calling for 27 dwellings, from cottages and multiple-family units to rooms in a cooperative home. No Web site yet, but sponsors are Kees and Helen Kolff and you can reach them by clicking here.
Olympia, WA has a new Ecovillage called Woodard Lane Cohousing. Its Web site is here.
Don't forget to check out Seattle City Repair, a new project to create and enhance neighborhood gathering places. Click here.
In Missouri, the Dancing Rabbit Ecovillage is getting lots of attention from having been the focus of FX cable network channel's TV series, "30 Days," done by Morgan Spurlock, the "Supersize Me" guy. Apparently the TV show took some liberties, which the Ecovillage addresses here. You can still catch the show on FX, which is Channel 53 on Comcast in Seattle. Cecile and Paul Andrews have taped it as well. It's worth a look, quite entertaining but also informative.
A tagging Web site, del.icio.us, has a bunch of Ecovillage URLs here.
Slow Down Now is an 'almost' serious antidote to workaholism which has compiled a sort of primer to "The Slow Life."
Phinney Neighborhood Association The Phinney Center, an old wood frame public school, is the village gathering ground.
Find It In Fremont, a guide to "neighborhood businesses that offer locally produced, environmentally friendly and socially responsible products and services. Read about how to help grow local economies."
Sustainable Ballard, a "newly registered non-profit organization developing a grassroots vision of sustainability for the community of Ballard."
Portland's City Repair Project A unique and dynamic community effort to transform, inspire, educate and activate the Rose City populace.
